"I was invited to give a short talk during the Champalimaud conference, which took place from the 13th to 15th of October, in person in Lisbon. My presentation included the work I conducted during my Master thesis with Prof. Jakob Macke and Dr. Stefanie Liebe. In the study we investigated short-term memory with recurrent neural networks exhibiting oscillatory activity. Both Jakob and a number of his lab members also made appearances, including an invited talk by MSNE alumni Janne Lappalainen and posters by MSNE alumnis Michael Deistler and Auguste Schulz.

The event consistent of three days of inspiring presentation, with two poster sessions breaking up the talks. The symposium's venue was absolutely stunning, with the main hall having a large window overlooking the river Tejo flowing into the ocean. The conference gave me the chance to interact with many researchers of different backgrounds. I enjoyed meeting some of the people whose papers I have been inspired by during my studies. The nicest experience for me was that I was approached by a number of scientists after my talk, who had both questions and suggestions, sparking discussions from which new ideas emerged. All in all, it was a very motivating experience which fuelled my enthousiasm for doing research in this field."
