Department Council


The Department Council is the highest decision-making body of a department and responsible for all affairs of the department that do not fall within the competence of the Dean or another department body. It decides on general teaching matters (e.g. degree courses, fields of study, teaching assignments), postdoctoral qualifications (formal confirmation of the teaching qualification), grant of teaching authorizations and appointment of professors. The decisions made by the Department Council have to be regularly confirmed by the TUM Board of Management and the TUM Senate in order to become effective. The Department Council is chaired by the Dean. The Department Council consists of elected representatives of professors, academic staff, non-academic staff and student representatives. Art. 31 BayHSchG regulates the constitution and tasks of the Department Council.
