Description of achievement and assessment methods

During a written examination without aids students have to proof by answering questions, analysing given circuits and calculate specific parameters of the circuits that they understood how mixed-signal circuits work.

Basis lectures on circuits design and on signal representation

Contents

Fundamentals of discrete time signal processing;

switched-capacitor circuits and design methodology;

Nyquist-rate D/A- and A/D-conversion: basic function principles, quantization noise, resolution and precision; dynamic characteristics;

basic Nyquist-rate D/A- and A/D-converter architectures, principles and examples of calibration and error correction;

oversampling conversion: principles of oversampling and noise shaping; architectures of modulators including single loop, cascaded, time continuous and bandpass modulators; decimation filtering; system architectures for oversampling A/D and D/A converters

Teaching and learning methods

  • Learning method: In addition to the individual methods of the students consolitdated knowledge is aspired by repeated lessons in exercises and tutorials. Students shall work on the problems on their own before the solutions are exlained and discussed in the exerises lecture. Additional problems are provided for self-study
  • Teaching method: During the lectures students are instructed in a teacher-centered style. The exercises are held in a student-centered way.
